Candy Cane Cookies
1/2 Cup Butter
1/2 Cup Shortening
1 Cup Powdered Sugar
1 Egg
1 1/2 Tsp Almond Extract
1 Tsp Vanilla
2 1/2 Cup Flour
1 Tsp Salt
In a large mixing bowl, cream together butter and shortening with a mixer. Add all other ingredients and mix well.
Divide dough and add red food coloring to one. Roll dough into small balls. Using one red ball and one white ball, roll each into 4 to 5 inch strings and twist together. Shape into canes and place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake on 375º for 9 minutes.
TIPS:
The dough is easier to work with when slightly chilled.
To avoid breaking, allow cookies to cool on the cookie sheet for a few minutes after baking.
